How I Healed My Hypoglycemia

Years ago hypoglycemia hit me square in my bloodstream. I was eating some processed foods, store bought crackers that lowered my blood sugar. Lowered blood sugar means that cells throughout your body, including your brain, aren't getting the fuel they need to function at their best. Studies show that the majority of people with hypoglycemia, low blood sugar, usually suffer from depression too. Reading the label, I thought the food I was eating was healthy, and yet because these type of foods are so addictive, I didn't realize how much of it was being consumed including hidden sugars. The result being weight gain, rash on my face, sluggish feeling, and non activity. Working with my Naturopathic doctor, I developed my own clean green food regimen, and began walking many miles daily. Within three months, that hypoglycemia was a thing of the past.

Has this ever happened to you? You come home from work, you're bone tired, and all you want is to do is bite into the tantalizing, mouth watering, soul satisfying taste of a little piece of heaven – a chocolaty delight; be it truffle, brownie, chocolate peanut butter cups, hempseed balls, chocolate pudding, chocolate fudge, or a chocolate bar; and your cupboard is bare. You tear through all your hidden places, your purse, your fridge, your freezer, your garage, if you have one. Nothing, a big fat zero, zilch. So, you get back in your car and race to your market. Here's where things can get even dicier. Perhaps you're a little like me and you want this chocolatey dessert to be healthy, be made with real whole plant based foods, which are nutritious and healing; to be organic because you really don't want a bunch of pesticides in your bloodstream, and you want just a hint of sweetness powered by dates, figs, or raisins; and sometimes maple syrup. Maybe, like me, you found out the hard way about the harmful effects of sugar, aka "sweet poison" and sugar like sweeteners. Searching through your market, reading labels, and getting downright discouraged because it's difficult to find what works for you and your body. Yes, there's loads of organic sweet treats today. However the majority of them are made with sugar, or agave, or a combination of sweeteners that leave an aftertaste in your mouth and still raise and/or lower your blood sugar. What's a woman to do?

 This year alone, nearly 600,000 Americans will lose their lives to cancer. Could a primary reason be as simple as what people are not eating regularly? Here is an excellent anticancer shopping list to use as a guideline.

What we eat, absorb, and digest, our lifestyle choices are directly related to our sickness/disease or our wellness/great health.

It is also well known that cancer cannot live in an alkaline environment with research showing that tumor growth increases in an acid environment.  The majority of people in the U.S. .consume an excess of acid-forming foods,  Blood in the body is maintained at a slightly alkaline level between 7.2 and 7.4.

 

Eating alkaline foods keeps the blood pH in its ideal range, which is important for the prevention and treatment of cancer. The 80-20 rule applies here. Eat 80% of alkaline forming foods such as those available from many raw veggies and fruits, nuts, seeds, ancient grains and some whole grains and legumes. (Please read the article for all lists of foods).

 

Very important also are the cruciferous veggies – kale, broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, cauliflower, mustard greens, arugala, watercress, turnips, and Brussels Sprouts. These veggies contain detoxifying compounds which have been proven to help prevent and reverse cancer. See references.

 

Green foods are rich in blood purifying chlorophyll and other important phytonutrients for detoxifying the system and rejuvenating organs. Laboratory tests have established that chlorophyll inhibits the activity of carcinogens at a molecular level.

 

Red foods – research confirms that strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, tart cherries, cranberries, and goji berries are high in immunosupportive and cancer fighting nutrients. such as lycopene and carotene. And many are high antioxidant as well.

 

Fiber, not a food itself yet is an important component of veggies, fruits, ancient and whole grains. Research suggests that high fiber intake may lower incidence of certain cancers such as breast, uterine, colorectal, and prostate.

 

Olive oil – use in moderation, has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. Choose extra virgin cold-pressed.

 

Green Tea

 

Mushrooms – several varieties have powerful healing properties. Even white button mushrooms.

 

Seaweeds used in Chinese Medicine for treating cancers helps to soften hardened tumors.

 

Spices offer numerous health promoting benefits.

 

From this list, it's pretty evident that consuming a mostly or total plant based food regimen is the solution to our health care crisis in the U.S..

Beet greens, who knew? I've always eaten beets in borscht or beet soup hot and cold – delish!  Recently I sarted eating more raw foods and a new friend told me about beet greens and the red stems. So I tried then and found a new food love. Now when I shop I buy the organic beets with the greens. I love eating them raw, using them as a wrap for side dishes I make. And the beets and stems are great steamed in a little filtered water. When cool, I drink the beet juice and nourish my body at the same time.
